Brenda Low gave a fantastic lesson today from the Teachings of Joseph Smith about gaining knowledge from eternal truths.
A quote from the lesson, "When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave."
One of my favorite points in the lesson was that we don't have to, nor will we ever be able to, learn it all in this lifetime. Everything comes a little at a time. The more we study, the more we can learn and know.
Whenever Doug's amazing aunts get together, one of my favorite questions asked is "What are you learning these days?" The answers always fascinate me. From languages to preparedness to some new talent or book that they've just read. When this question gets asked, it's one time that I like to sit quietly and listen! Ask someone you meet this week, "What's something you have learned about the gospel recently?" You'll be surprised at the answers you'll hear! It may even send you in a new direction of study!
“Study the Bible, and as many of our books as you can get; pray to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, have faith in the promises made to the fathers, and your mind will be guided to the truth.” Joseph Smith
